Bachelor of Arts (BA) is the most sought after undergrad course in India. Every year, more than 9 million students opt for BA courses in different specializations like History, Hindi, English, Psychology, Journalism, etc. Every year, admission to BA courses starts during the month of June. Candidates are required to score at least 50% marks in Class 12 exams. BA is offered in both full time and distance education mode and can be completed in a term of 3-6 years.

Job opportunities after BA are quite varied and diverse, depending upon the specialization, area, and occupation profile.

  • BA can be pursued in full-time, distance, or online mode. Distance Education or Online learning are particularly for the working people who wish to learn along with their jobs.
  • Students who wish to pursue BA must attain at least 50% (or 45%) in class 12 from a recognised board. 
  • Top BA specializations include BA Economics, BA English, and BA Anthropology. 
  • After BA, applicants can opt for MA or Master of Arts. To pursue research, they can choose an MPhil course or switch their specialization distinctive to what it was in undergraduation. 
  • Many candidates like to go for an MBA after completing their BA, as it offers better options and remunerations. 
  • After BA, candidates also apply for government exams like UPSC and aim to become IAS or IPS. 

Eligibility Criteria:

  1. The basic criteria for applying for Bachelor of Arts is attaining at least 40-50 % in Class 12 examinations from any recognised board. 
  2. SC/ST/OBC/differently abled candidates get a 5% relaxation as per the government rules.

BA Admission 

Admission to BA courses is done either on the basis of merit or upon the results of entrance tests. 

BA Admission through Merit: Colleges create their cut off list, and upon satisfying the eligibility criteria, you are qualified to take admission in that program. 

BA Admission through Entrance: Few colleges like Banaras Hindu University, Delhi University, etc accept admissions based on the results of entrance exams such as JNUEE, BHU UET, DUET, and so on.
